Cambodia-US Renew MoU for Employment Sector Development

Phnom Penh: Cambodia’s Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training has renewed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States’ American Center for International Labor Solidarity, ACILS. The MoU was signed on Wednesday and is aimed at the continuation of the development of the employment sector in Cambodia by promoting and facilitating institutional capacity building. The two-year agreement was signed by Minister of Labor, Mr. Ith Sam Heng and ACILS Program Director for Cambodia, Mr. William Conklin.

Mr. Heng says that the MoU is another important framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training and ACILS, which will contribute to the implementation of the principles and policies of the Royal Government in the development of the employment sector. He has also expressed his appreciation for the achievements made under the previous MoU, most notably two study trips in 2018 during which experiences were exchanged related to the implementation of trade union rights in the hotel and casino sector.

At the same time, Mr. Conklin has hailed the MLVT and ACILS’ cooperation. He says he hopes that by renewing the memorandum, the two sides will show a willingness to further strengthen cooperation for the benefit of workers and contribute to the promotion of rights, working conditions and harmony in the workplace, especially in response to the situation during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
